Arch-101 was originally founded in 1997 in Spokane, Washington by Scott Somers and 2 partners under the name OMS Architects, specializing in orthodontic, dental, and healthcare projects throughout the country and abroad. After ownership changes, the office moved 35 miles to the west in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho and was renamed to ARCH-101.
Scott is the founding architect and Managing Principal of ARCH-101.
A self-proclaimed "experience junkie," Scott finds the world endlessly fascinating and his quest to experience "everything" started at a very young age. Originally from Detroit, Michigan, Scott spent countless hours over the years at the Cranbrook Academy of Art and Institute of Science, taking classes and exploring the campus.
After graduating from high school in Dallas, Texas, he attended The University of Texas at Austin. During summers, he attended Northlake College's carpentry program and worked as a residential carpenter and high-rise concrete form carpenter while attending The University of Texas at Arlington.
Scott moved to California where he attended Long Beach City College while remodeling kitchens as a carpenter.
He received his Bachelor of Architecture degree from Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kansas.
Somers started his professional career in Long Beach, California working for renowned architect, Edward Killingsworth. Killingsworth was one of the founders of the mid-century movement in Los Angeles featuring homes designed in the Case Study Houses program sponsored by Arts & Architecture magazine from 1945-1966.
Scott currently lives in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho with his wife, Heather and their English Bulldog, Baxter in their modern mid-century house that he designed and built. They have 5 grown children. In his spare time, you can find Scott either at camp on the Coeur d'Alene river, cooking, brewing beer, woodworking, at estate sales, gardening, hanging out with friends and family, while always...listening to music.
